For the manufacturing of the main structure CFRP (carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic) components of the Flying Laptop an own production laboratory has been established.

The main structure of the Flying Laptop is designed in a hybrid configuration. While the lower part consists of aluminum integral milled structures and in the upper part of satellite CFRP sandwich structures are used. Based on the experience of the University of Stuttgart in the field of composites manufacturing these structures shall be manufactured in a specially built composite lab at the IRS (Institute of Space Systems). For the production of the composite components infiltrations and tempering processes under different temperatures and in vacuum design (mostly VARI-Process) is required. So the necessary manufacturing equipment, tools and facilities were set up. Thus, it is now possible to built structural components such as sandwich structures and CFRP-brackets at the IRS.
