Within the new Bachelors program for "Aerospace Engineering" a bachelor project will be offered this year for the first time. The students shall have the possibility of getting knowledge and hands-on experience in project organisation. The Institute of Space Systems (IRS) will take part in this offer with a project contributing to the Flying Laptop. Part of the work for the students will be the setup of the structural-thermal model of the satellite.
Currently the Flying Laptop is in the detailed design phase which is supposed to end with this year. In the following a structural-thermal model (STM) of the satellite will be build having equivalent mechanical and thermal properties as the real satellite. With the help of the STM the numerical simulations of the satellite shall get improved as well as the structural and thermal design of the satellite gets verified.
The following work steps need to be accomplished: • Manufacturing drawings (CFRP & Aluminium) • Development of production tools for the CFRP structure of the STM • Building of the CFRP structure with integrated mountings • Supervision of the aluminium parts fabrication • Measurement of mechanical and thermal properties of components • Development of mass dummies • Customization of measurement hardware • Development of a procedure for temperature sensor mounting • Development of of test prozedures for the STM • (Optional: STM tests)
